8 1/2 Otto e Mezzo BOMBANA Review

I had high hopes for this restaurant as it is the only 3 Michelin Star Italian restaurant in Hong Kong.  It feels like 1 star than 3.

Our reservation was at 630pm but they were 15 minutes late in opening up the restaurant to diners. I dont understand how can a 3 Star restaurant make their guests wait. We arrived earlier than our appointment time in Caprice but we were allowed into the restaurant. This is quite poor.

Hence, we decided to order some drinks at the lounge. The bartender cut his finger and put a plaster in front of us and proceeded to make drinks for us which he continue to peel lemon skin with handiplast which was handed to me in my lemon sour . I wasn’t exactly looking forward to my drinks to be honest.

The restaurant was totally empty except for us and a Japanese couple but they bunched us up side by side. They should space the customers up as the tables are quite near each other and since the tables beside us were only seated when we were almost done with our meal. This not only affected us, but also affected the other customers coming in later.

The decor was not 3 star. There wasn’t much of a view and tables are so close making the environment a bit noisy. The ceilings were low, no chandeliers.

The service wasn’t great as well. Depending on who serve you, the dishes were not well explained in some cases unlike Caprice.

I feel the service except for some, was a bit amateurish. My table was not cleaned after each course, I though this is expected of 3 stars.

We ordered the crab caviar salad, the gnocchi totally overpowered the dish.

The seafood soup wasn’t impressive.

The white truffle tagliolini was fresh and good. This is the only good dish I would recommend. Their pasta dishes are good and they are very generous with white truffle.

The veal chop was horrible, it was slightly dry, it was cold, it was bland, no taste, the batter was heavy. That was the down point of the whole meal. It was so disappointing that we did not finish it. I read previous reviews on trip advisor later and everyone was complaining about it.
